After agreeing to various demands at a meeting in July 2009, with the Chief of Staff of the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO), the Group was promised a joined up and simple way of getting the cadets from local squadrons back out as cadets, not just as indviduals. One such demand was a health and safety audit. This happened and after 6 hours and providing many copies of documents we were promised a copy of the report. The ACO, does not want to support their young people in volunteering within their commuities The ACO get PUBLIC FUNDING to pay for each young person (cadet) to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award. At present this funding is not being subject to any control, therefore wasting time and money. Many cadets struggle to complete the DofE because they find it near impossible to get out into their communities and volunteer due to health & safety, insurance, CRB/disclosure Scotland cehecks etc.Over £25 million of funding is given to the Air Cadet Organisation, and with the recently announced cuts within the RAF, is it not about time that this organisation is now subjected to closer scrutiny? The ACO used to be a professional organisation ran for the good of the young people known as cadets. We pose the question, what has happened? Our Group has no association with the ACO at present due to a number of concerns the FACCG Trustees had with the way the ACO conducts its business. We hope that in the future the Royal Air Force and Ministry of Defence will conduct a full audit on finance, health and safety and volunteer staff qualifications. In the mean time we are dropping the "Air Cadets" out of our Group name as we no longer feel that we can be associated with such a poorly run organisation. |
